Aswan is one of the main cities in Egypt and the Third largest city of Egypt and the biggest of Upper Egypt! It is also one of the main tourist places to visit in Egypt.
Together with Luxor, it is the major stop for the cruise boats, as most of the Nile cruises sail between Aswan and Luxor.
The city is famous for the high dam and the Nubian monuments during and after its construction of the High Dam. It is famous also for the Unfinished Obelisk, and the most beautiful Botanical Garden.
The city enjoys a hot climate throughout the year.
Aswan is very rich with archaeological monuments, and please find hereunder some of its monuments:

The Unfinished Obelisk
The Unfinished Obelisk lies in a granite quarry in Aswan. Its length is 42m. It was abandoned when some cracks appeared in the rock, during its construction.
If this Obelisk had been completed, it would have been the heaviest in Ancient Egypt, weighing around 1100 tons. It is believed that it was during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (18th Dynasty).
The High Dam
The High Dam of Aswan is one of the greatest projects in our modern history. It is one of the most important achievements of the last century in Egypt. It is a symbol of the New Era of the Revolution of 1952. It enriched Egypt with water and electricity and secured Egypt of the risk of the destructive inundation.
The Abu Simbel Temples
The Temples of Abu Simbel are of the most interesting Pharaonic Temples in Egypt. They are Located close to the southern border of Egypt with Sudan. Abu Simbel is 280 km south of Aswan. The Temple of Abu Simbel consists of two, rock-cut Temples. Both of them date back to the reign of King Ramses II (1290-1223 BC). Unfortunately, the Temples, though unique, suffered from the raising water of Lake Nasser, during the building of the High Dam. UNESCO, together with some countries assisted Egypt to help saving them.
Philae Temple
Philae Island is a rocky island in the middle of the Nile River. It is located south of Aswan. It is called in Hieroglyphic "Apo" which means Ivory. It is also known by the "Elephantine", because it was a centre of trade, especially ivory trading.
The Ancient Egyptians built a magnificent Temple on this island for the Goddess Isis, but the Temple became submerged after the first Dam of Aswan was built in 1906. It was not until the seventies that many nations attempted to save the Temple.
The Temple of Philea was reopened again in 1980!
