Dahab, meaning "gold", in Arabic, is located between Sharm el Sheikh and Nuweiba. The town on the Red Sea is one of the favorite places for divers and those who enjoy Bedouin culture. Assalah, is famous for the Bedouin-style restaurants, dive centers and beaches full of wide variety of water sports. Dahab is also a favourite destination for those who look for resorts with full facilities.
The coral peninsula of Dahab is renowned for its popular dive sites in Egypt such as Blue Hole, Canyon and Lighthouse. Experienced divers return year after year to witness the wonders of the mysterious marine life of its water.
Dahab is also a major location on the Red Sea for windsurfing. The winds in Dahab are not only cool off the hot summers, but also make Dahab a surfer's perfect paradise. Dahab is also a perfect starting point for a variety of desert trips.
Whether a diver or a non-diver, Dahab has something for everyone. The town is generally crammed with divers and windsurfers so people generally have something in common where ever they go. For families, the destination is ideal, particularly if only one member of the family dives. With shore based diving only half of the day could be taken up diving which would mean that the rest of the day could be used for sunbathing, other activities, shopping or just spending it with the family.
The diving should not be missed as the corals are beautiful and one can also dive crevaces, caves, canyons and a blue hole. About 95% of the dive sites are accessible by jeep (and/or camel) which gives you more flexibility as to when and where you want to dive each day. Dahab has excellent hotel accommodations, but also affords less expensive housing in the village, or camping.
