Luxor is situated 675 km to the south of Cairo and has the most important place in the history of Egypt. Al Aqsur (Palaces) is the Arabic name of the city Thebes, the capital of New Kingdom (1580-1085 B.C.). The number of the monuments in Luxor can never be found anywhere else in the world .Luxor consists of 3 different areas, consisting of the City of Luxor on the East side of the Nile, the Karnak north of Luxor & Thebes, on the west side of the Nile. 
Luxor city is a major attraction for tourists in Egypt .It has been a tourist destination since the beginning of tourism. Luxor is also well equipped with many International style hotels to accommodate tourists.
In Luxor on the East Bank, Luxor Temple the first place must be seen, which was connected to the Karnak Temple via a long stone street called a dromos. The dromos was built by Nectanebo I, and originally was lined on both side by sphinxes.
Karnak contains the remains of Islamic & Christian heritage embodied in a mosque and a church. 
The Mummification Museum, which has most anything you would ever want to know about mummifications.
About halfway to Karnak, you will see the Luxor Museum.
The West bank is famous for the The Valley of the Kings with its tombs from the 18th and 19th Dynasties.
Sculptured Walls

The road eventually reaches the Valley of Asasif. These are 25th, 26th Dynasty tombs. At the end of the Valley of Asasif a cliff named Deir el-Bahri is a spectacular complex of temples. The Temple of Hatshepsut must be seen.
Finally comes to the huge complex known as Medinet Habu, which is another of Thebe's major attractions .Out in the fields near here is the Colossi of Memnon, one of the major tourist attractions throughout time. Southwest of Deir el-Medina is the Valley of the Queens, where queens of the 18th and 19th Dynasties were buried.
