Safaga was for many years considered as a merchant port . Now the town, with its wide azure bay, and long sandy beaches and pretty islands, has become one of the favourite sports destination in the Red Sea Riviera.
Safaga is particularly popular among windsurfers, and it was previously the host of the 1993 Red Sea World Windsurfing Championships.
Safaga is 53km south of Hurghada. Safaga acquired its unique character from both its port and the small surrounding villages.
A holiday in Safaga can be relished through watersports and sightseeing, with little nightlife around.
The black sand beaches of Safaga are a favourite spot for sun bathers.
The sea water is highly saline and rich in minerals which are beneficial for the skin, so it is optimal curative destination in the Red Sea Riviera.
Safaga also has some of the most outstanding diving spots of the Red Sea, with the bay's chain reefs of Tobia Arbaa, and the impressive walls of Panorama and Abu Qifan towering reefs.
Safaga is also a perfect starting point for a day trip into the Eastern Desert of Egypt to the granite quarries of Mons Claudianus. It is also a starting point to the sights of Luxor, one of the most impressive sights of Egypt, which is only 220km away. |
